For whatever reason, it looks like mail sent to my elfie address is not getting through. I’ve already dropped John a note about it, but until that comes back up, the gmail account is where I can be contacted. EDIT:Mail appears to be back again yay! Thank you John 🙂 … Continue reading →
17:28 @snidegrrl If only I had a turntable I could hook to the Mac, I would be happy to rip a copy of my Chess album for you. # 17:54 @snidegrrl It’s the original, 2-disc, “concept” vinyl album in a black sleeve. Sounded pretty good when I listened to it last (~20 yrs ago). # Sent subspace radio by LoudTwitter … Continue reading →
tzel reposted an very good article from into the community. I believe that this post about the new costuming trend in fandom (which some are already complaining about) reflects an issue that’s been around for a long time. With notations and edits, here’s my abridged version of the post: Rule One: Steampunk fashion is a real-world reproduction of the clothing that is or could be found in steampunk literature. It’s that simple. Note the phrase “could be” in that sentence. Rule Two: When in doubt, dress Victorian and then add. Here’s a nice simple baseline. Again, that’s baseline, not Scripture. … Continue reading →
07:53 Just learned that Julia Child spied for the Allies in WW2. The world is a touch more awesome. # 10:47 Oh, look, another crash project. There went me getting tickets done today. # 20:00 Got minor ‘attaboy’ from boss this afternoon. On way out, felt much more willing to stay 15 mins. extra to break down monitor boxes. # Sent subspace radio by LoudTwitter … Continue reading →

Insurance companies: if you don’t stop showing me commercials where a car accident is re-enacted in first-person perspective, I may just go all PTSD on you, and none of us want that. Perhaps I’m whining and should just suck it up, but every time someone does that on TV or in a movie, I have to restrain the urge to freak out. Been there. Did that. Did NOT enjoy it.
My “grown-up” moment for the week: not bidding on a Lego Mars Rover on eBay even though it came to $10 below retail. I just don’t need to be spending $85 on Lego right now. But I thought about it for a second. Worked on a shell script today which will automate and streamline installation and troubleshooting of our backup services. I keep forgetting how much I love writing code, especially the bit where it executes and everything works properly and I feel like Dr. Frankenstein shouting “It’s alive!!” I caught the coding bug when the TRS-80s came out, and … Continue reading →
07:51 Down from 38-inch waist to 36. The walking and Coca-Cola deprivation is accomplishing something! # 10:46 It’s amazing how motivated I can become from just a bit of kudos and recognition. # Sent subspace radio by LoudTwitter … Continue reading →
How insane have the last two days been? Well, I feel naked without my wristwatch, and I almost never go out in public without it. Sunday, I took it off and set it down for some reason – probably related to cleaning the apartment – and I don’t know where. But, since Sunday, I just plain haven’t had time to look for it. I keep looking at the pale band of skin on my wrist, and wishing I could scratch the mental itch of my watch’s absence, but it’ll have to wait! On the other hand, my efforts from yesterday … Continue reading →
