LiveJournal Use Survey
(copied from madwriter)
This survey looked like fun, and a chance for a little more introspection than the usual character quiz (such as the fascinating “Which Space Rogues Character Are You?” quiz by raininva). Ahem. Anyway…
1. Your LiveJournal “user name” and what it means:
Nothing complex or mystical at all – I’ve used “mikailborg” since my AOL days. “Mikhail” is an infrequent nickname for me in my local group of fans, a group which is overloaded with “Michael”s who need nicknames for clarity; “Borg” becuase of the artificial hip I recieved in ’89 after my car tried to imitate Buckaroo Banzai‘s and tunnel through a mountain. I had to pull the “h” from “mikhail” because, at the time, AOL screen names had to be 10 letters or less. It stuck, and my Elfie e-mail is still missing the “h”.
2. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest) how well does your LiveJournal represent who you actually are?
Boy, the last question was so easy… I’d give it a 7-8. There are things about me which I may never discuss on LJ; on the other hand, I’m working on really opening up my mind and heart here once in a while, just to give them both some badly-needed fresh air. We’ll see how the experiment goes.
3. How much about your life do you post to LJ?
Mostly things which provoked a strong emotional or intellectual reaction in me, whether it be positive or negative. I feel I should work on posting more of the positive stuff, both to aid my own future memories (I never have trouble remembering the negatives, for some reason) and to give the folks who read my journal a less skewed view.
4. Is there anything you refuse to post about?
This is an interesting question, because there’s certainly plenty in my day to day life that it never occurs to me to post about, simply because it didn’t really interest me, and I can’t see how posting it would mean anything to me or my readers. I don’t post about my sex life… which is sometimes difficult, because there’s certainly plenty about it that provokes strong emotional or intellectual reactions from me! However, I fear the negative repercussions would far outweigh any positive result of such posting.
5. On a scale of 1-10 how interesting do you think your own journal is to others?
I’d like to steal madwriter‘s answer: “Depends on how much those others show up in my entries.” More honestly, I’d say 5. Maybe 6 or 7 for close friends.
6. From who/how did you find out about LJ?
raininva told me about it one day… was months later before I asked for an invite code. Suddenly, I had the urge to keep a public journal… it’s been good for me so far.
7. Has anyone ever joined LJ because of you?
I twisted trenn‘s arm until he joined 🙂 I think he’s the only candidate, though.
8. What proportion of your posts are friends only?
Almost none. It would usually be a waste of time… the only people who would care about any of them are already my friends, and there’s very little I write about that I’d mind a complete stranger reading. I’m enough of an extrovert to enjoy it slightly.
9. What is your favorite interest on LJ?
No favorite… just new shiny interest whatever’s my brain’s locked onto for the moment
10. Has anything on LJ ever caused you to establish, rethink, or even change your belief or position on something?
Not really. While I am a very open-minded person who loves to listen to other’s viewpoints, I’ve usually arrived at my own through a great deal of thought and soul-searching. I can’t say I’ve hit anything on LJ provocative enough to challenge those bases. Would be an interesting experience, though.
11. How often do you respond/comment on other peoples journal’s?
I go in spurts… a few days with no comments, a day in which I comment on practically everything I see, then a few days of random comments here and there. Repeat, mixing as necessary.
12. Do you prefer to write in your journal, read other journals?
I spend more time reading other’s journal’s, but that’s becuase I tend to only post when I’m worked up about something. When I am, I want to write! (And I’m usually nowhere near a computer at that point, too.)
13. Have you ever had something mean said to you or been stalked, harassed, or got into an argument/flame war on LJ (or did it to someone else)?
Not yet, thankfully. Hope that continues.
14. Have you ever banned someone from your journal?
No, though I’ve stopped reading the journals of other people who seemd interesting but weren’t.
15. Who are your favorite LJ friend(s) and why?
If I didn’t list raininva first, I’d shortly have respiratory problems. *grin* Other than that, I like most all of them and love to hang out with the ones I can!
16. How many of your LJ friends have you actually met?
Most of them, since they tend to be local fan folk… there’s a few friends I’ve randomly stumbled upon who live in faraway places, and I haven’t met yet. I’d love to correct that issue someday soon, though.
17. Of all of the people on LJ you know of, who is the most like you?
Well, according to recent interest matching, I am attempting to become kittykatya. I’m a great deal like raininva, and I tend to have a ton in common with most of the folk on my friends list.
18. Why are you most likely to add someone to your friends list?
If they’re a real-life friend whose LJ I’ve just discovered… if they have an interesting journal I’ve discovered though my friends’ friends lists (that’s not a typo)… once in a while, though blind random chance. If it’s an interesting journal, voracious reader that I am, I’ll probably add it.
19. Do you automatically add friends to your journal if they add you first?
Not at all. I read their journal and userinfo first, to see if I find them interesting at all (there’s that word again), then I’ll probably add them 🙂
20. What is the most likely reason you wouldn’t add someone to your friends list?
If I check out their journal and profile, and discover that they are boring or offnesive.
21. Is your “significant other” on LJ?
raininva got here first, and dragged me in! Though these days I think I post more than she does. I’d have to check to be sure of that, though, and it’s really too much effort right now.
22. Have you ever wanted to meet someone on LJ?
duckydoo sounds like a wonderful lady, and I think that spookycam and I could talk geek stuff all evening long. subbes knows I lust after her, as does crysanna. Heck I’d love to mee anyone on my friends list that I haven’t already!
Actually, I lust after every intelligent, fun female I’ve ever met, so I guess that’s not really a mark of distinction. Good thing raininva‘s got me under a close watch *waggles eyebrows*
