Another loss
Amira passed away yesterday. I don’t have many reliable details, but I know that she was quite ill, and this was not exactly unexpected. Still, losing her and my friend Millie within a few weeks of each other amplifies the lousiness.
The southwestern Virginia fans here should remember her as a fixture and frequent guest of the SWVA convention scene. She always had energy and an opinion, and pitched in often when she felt her talents would be useful.
I’m really glad there’s footage of her bellydancing on the Technicon 24 DVD. It’s not an awful way to be remembered.

OMG!! I didn’t know she was ill. I hadn’t seen her in ages but I do remember her fondly from T-Con.
Yeah, she had been sick for awhile.
I’ve known Amira in the SCA for many many years, she never hesistated to teach anyone her art.
She had an infectious laugh that brought joy to so many. She will be greatly missed in all facets.
R.I.P
Amira.
🙁
*howls mournfully*
Oh my… She looked so good at tcon last spring. I hadn’t heard she’d gotten ill again. ;_;
I’m sad to hear she’s passed. RIP, Amira, you will be missed.
Amira was one of the first Virginia fandom people I knew at all. She was an excellent person, willing to talk with absolutely anyone.
🙁
*sigh* So it goes.
That is really tragic. We were students together at Hollins, and she was really great to talk to. She probably single-handedly was what brought me into the con scene down there.
*cries*
Goddammit.
I found out about this from Bambi, who found out from Brenna calling her around 8 this morning howling in tears.
I know this is a bit morbid, but it is something that needs to be done. Bambi is wondering if anyone can contact Peter and find out if she had any insurance for burial. If not (or even if there is, it’s probably not much) he will probably need help coming up with that kind of money. Morbid, I know, but that’s a headache he doesn’t need right now.
I am going to miss her.
Eep?!?
Um, Yikes. I’m sorry to hear this. I thought she was recovering.
Is there any information on a funeral/memorial service?
Bleah — that sucks mightily. She was always a joy to talk with and was willing to do anything she could to help out if she thought you needed it.
