To Do Checklist
Things to do today, in random order:
1) Have large breakfast so I don’t mope all day.
Completed at 1:00 pm.
2) Call Mom and check up on her. Continue searching for home care.
No answer at Jon Reid’s. Left message on his phone.
3) Clean gerbil cage.
Gerbils looking much happier. Cat still sad this is not a buffet.
4) Get badly needed haircut.
This is being put off for a week-and-a-half due to time and budget issues.
5) Get lamp for spare bedroom.
Lamp secure. Only been meaning to do this for months.
6) Do laundry.
Third load in dryer. That’s all I have energy for tonight.
7) Contact plumber who fixed kitchen sink at Kentland to make payment arrangements.
Number not in phone. Left voicemail with neighbor contact.
8) Try for Azeroth Olympics tabard and pet.
Got tabard. Pet looking unlikely.
9) Clean up living room. Empty dishwasher from last night.
Dishwasher is empty and reloaded. Living room in progress. Vacuum cleaner belt is broken.
10) Make dinner.
Seared then baked chicken randomly seasoned with garlic, lemon, cumin, and cilantro, with couscous on the side. An Iron Chef would be appalled, but it came out yummy.
11) Call local lifestyle group about demo they asked for on Tuesday.
Done. No problem, they just need me to revise the entire presentation, that’s all.
12) Buy new pantz to replace 1 holed pair and 2 pair falling off my hips (good thing, right?)
This is being put off for a week-and-a-half due to time and budget issues.
Actually, he probably made that up.
From the Canadian Press website:
OWEN SOUND, Ont. — A waitress from Owen Sound, Ont., says she can’t believe she was laid off after she had her head shaved for a cancer fundraising event.
Stacey Fearnall raised more than $2,700 for charity, but when she showed up for work and refused to sport a wig for her shift, her boss told her to take the summer off. Her employer, Dan Hilliard, says his restaurant has certain standards prohibiting men from wearing earrings and requiring employees to keep their hair at a reasonable length. He says Fearnall is still on the payroll and she can return to work once she sprouts some locks.
Hilliard admits the story isn’t great PR for the restaurant but as far as he’s concerned, it’s an internal staff problem. He says he’s already heard from some customers who agree with him and say they would have been “appalled” to have been served at Fearnall’s table.
Hey, you. Yes, you over there, the person who would be “appalled” to be served by a bald woman?
Your humanity license has been revoked, and we will begin devolving you shortly. Would you like “slime mold”, “dung beetle”, or “plankton”?
Just One More Turn
Starr is feeling much better today – it appears to have been nothing more than a vicious virus. She’s at home playing the copy of Civilisation II I gave her. (OMG, that game is crack just to watch. How addictive must it be to play? WoW has nothing on Civ!)
I had a sockfull of good intentions for chores and games and stuff last night, but that turned into Civ-watching, dinner, half of Master Blasters, and an early bedtime. I haven’t yet decided if I’ll like MB based on the little I just saw, but it does have building stuff and rocketry going for it.
It’s about time for another haircut. I’m wondering how the short hair from my Next Gen icon would look.
Narcis II: The Wrath of Sassoon
Okay, I admit defeat. I had fun growing my hair out all year, but as the weather cooled it started to bug me. The wind was blowing it in my face, it got matted under hoods and caps, and was always on the wrong side of my collars.
So, without fanfare, I went and got a haircut on Saturday. What do I look like now? Somewhere between the 2003 pic in this previous entry, and the usericon on this current one.
Reactions? Everyone thinks it’s a huge improvement, including the folks who said the long hair looked good. My cubicle-mate says I look like a choirboy now.
I’m not saying I’ll never grow it out again (and style it better if I do) but, for now, the short hair is back. And I must confess, it does save showering time in the mornings.
Gleaming, streaming, flaxen, waxen
Another round of the hair saga today.
Back when I started paying for my own haircuts, I decided to grow my hair long. It was pretty straight and stringy back then. (First pic) After the car accident, I cut it a little bit shorter, but it didn’t get far from my collar line, and it filled out a lot. (Second pic).
raininva liked short hair on me, so I kept it pretty trim while we were together. (Third pic) This year, though, I figured I’d enjoy growing it back out to its two-decades-ago length. (Fourth pic, though I have put the beard back on since then)
Reviews have been mixed. Some of my BCT co-workers were unimpressed, but the new hair went over great at Invisifest. It’s cool at NASA, though with all the military there I think I’ve got the longest hair on base.
This weekend, an acquaintance told me that it looked terrible on me – it bummed me out a bit. But just today, one of my coworkers told me she loved it, and it was a big improvement over April’s length.
I’m going to keep it long for now, but there certainly seems to be very little middle ground here!

Thank you for indulging my little narcisissm moment.
