The Halloween workplace
Haven’t seen anyone dressed up for the holiday here at NASA. I guess it’s not too surprising, we are conducting serious business here frumph frumph frumph. But I have my bunny ears nearby in case of emergency.
The places I’ve worked have had varying policies about employee Halloween costumes. I think I wore a costume at B&D Comic Shop, but it was so long ago, I can’t clearly remember. The “Thrifty Nickel” encouraged dressing up, though many years, no one bothered but me; I usually wore a Starfleet uniform or my Jedi outfit. One of the last years I was there, one of our more conservative salespeople unaccountably chose “Tinkerbell” to make her sales calls in, which led to a panicky alteration of the costume when she discovered how much leg even the tame Disney version would show.
I can’t recall any costuming at Decipher, which was a bit of a surprise – you’d think a bunch of game geeks would garb up. My last Halloween at BCT was a smash, though. I dressed up in drag, and was convincing enough from behind that one of my bosses mistook me for another co-worker.
Anyone here dressing up for work?
I’m not dressed up, but wearing my company polo shirt makes me feel like an idiot, so maybe that counts ; )
At my immediately previous job, there was even a “decorate your department” contest every year. I kind of half enjoyed and half loathed it, because it was compulsory. Sometimes I needed to get some damn work done.
I haven’t seen anyone in costume here yet, so I assume it doesn’t happen. Better for me, but less marvelous in the end.
No… sadly, there was a work event today that prevented me from doing my normal office decoration and costume. I could put on a name-tag that said “Ms. Information” but no one would really pay attention anyway… ๐
No dressing up, just buckling down. Gotta try and get in a solid 8 hours after classes before the end of the month, so I can submit a halfway-decent invoice.
I have an unfortunate tendency to only accumulate anime-themed costumes that nobody at work would get. These also tend to be fairly complicated, and not that comfortable to send the day in.
sadly no.
i did consider wearing one of my tails, but my work chair is not compatible.
hey, we are sending you a thank you card. want to drop me a note and tell me your snail mail?
Nope. No Halloween at work.
Yes, I can actually say that we dressed up at where I work. Not the sheer volume of people that I have seen at other jobs in the past but it was still fun.
I wore part of my SCA gear which included a 3/4 length chaimail shirt (approx weight 45lbs) for most of the day. My tabard with my coat of arms and my squire’s belt. I wasn’t allowed to bring my sword, even though it would be peace bonded from heck, still wasn’t allowed to. (party poopers).
Still had a lot of looks of oohs and ahhs, mostly because the thing is so darn heavy people were amazed that I could wear it.
Snacked on munchies throughout the day, got Some work done, but no much. ๐
OK, I dug out the jester’s hat and wore that all day. It’s not exactly a costume, but at least it does make me look ridiculous. Given the weather this morning, the kilt may have been appropriate, but I also have a tendency not to equate “garb” with “costume”.
