Sci-fi Arms Dealership

The apartment purge continues. This weekend: my plastic model kits.

As with books and con T-shirts, I couldn’t bring myself to get rid of them all, but I am still putting up some very nice kits I had looked forward to building one day (assuming an unlimited budget of time and money and display space). Some of these were gifts, and that made it even harder to put them on this list, but the time has come.

I’ll put these up here for a week or so, then they’ll go up on Craigslist or eBay or something. If you are interested, let me know and we’ll work out the details of payment and shipping etc. I’d say that most of the injection-molded kits are suitable for kids and adults with moderate experience, while the vinyl kits require slightly more advanced skills. Some of the snap-fit kits sound easier, but actually end up requiring skilled adjustments to actually look good… you never know.

All model kits are still in shrink wrap unless otherwise noted. Likewise, all model kits are “injection-molded” kits, like your standard race car or fighter plane kit, unless otherwise noted. Kits without their shrink wrap are believed to be complete with all parts, decals, and instructions that are normally included.

All kits are $5.00 each plus my shipping costs, unless otherwise noted. Some of these may be worth far more on eBay – I don’t really care. I’d rather see these end up in a good home.

How difficult are these three, in your opinion? Could a nine-year-old who’s never done a model make them with the help of parents who have?

Absolutely. The kit company rates them as “Skill Level 2” which basically means that you’ll have to use model glue, and the kit’s not pre-painted (though some decals may be supplied). Most all of the injection kits in my list are Level 2 – even the snap-fit ones will need painting, at least.

I was building Level 2 kits at 9 years old, though my paint jobs were horrible and I didn’t know about seam-concealing model putty yet 🙂

We are interested in those three and the AT-ST, which I didn’t notice the first time I looked.

  • Mikhail says:

I’ll set them aside for you, and contact you directly once I’ve figured out the shipping.

Did you see the Vader’s TIE Fighter model? I’ll assume you’re intentionally passing on the Luke and Han vinyl kits.

  • cjmr says:

I think he already has the LEGO TIE-advanced model, which is cooler, IMHO, as you can actually play with it, smash it into pieces, and then rebuild it.

You are right in thinking we’re deliberately passing Luke and Han.

Shipping zip code would be 20716. Gas prices being what they are, it would be cheaper for you to ship them to us than for me to drive down there (which wouldn’t be unreasonable, if it were a heavy item). Assuming that you’re where your userinfo profile says you are.

  • geckoman says:

I’d be interested in all of the kits that aren’t spoken for already minus the Star Trek vinyl kits. $5 each is a good price! Plus I ought to be close enough to come pick them up rather than ship them.

  • rattrap says:

If doesn’t want dupes, I’ll take one of the Defiants and one of the three ship Enterprise displays. Since I’ll be using them for kitbashing, he can pick whichever version he wants.

  • Mikhail says:

You’ve got ’em. I need to acquire a nice box, and figure out the shipping costs, which I’ll do ASAP.

    I’ll be in touch!

  • Mikhail says:

Hey there! Bet you thought I’d forgotten about these!

The kits are in a box, and ready to head up to you if you still want ’em. I’m going to handle the shipping, so if you’ll just fire a shipping address to mikailborg @ LJ, you’ll have the kits shortly!

  • cjmr says:

Well, you have had a lot on your mind, lately…

I was just thinking about this last week, actually.
