Thinned blood

My Mom’s back in the hospital. The blood thinner she had been prescribed caused some internal bleeding; it seems to have stopped, and she’ll probably be out again by the weekend. But… oy.

We found a Jamaican cafe / grocery less than two blocks from us last night, and I tried curry chicken for the first time ever. Extremely yummy, though I’m not used to eating anything that shade of yellow; nor am I used to picking that many tiny sharp chicken bones from my teeth. Oh, and an hour later, my stomach was not pleased with these new spices at all. Still, yum.

The apartment building I live in is very nice, but it’s still an apartment building. One of the tenants on my floor has had multiple summonses taped to their door in recent months; this last weekend, they moved out in a flurry of activity (mysteriously bringing a mattress into the place in the process). Well, police showed up a couple of days later to pound on their door, and there’s an eviction notice taped there now (which doesn’t exactly change much at this point). I’m actually sad. They seemed nice enough, and it’s a shame when people’s mistakes land on them so hard.

At this moment, I am rather physically and emotionally weary. I’ll be fine, it’s hardly life-threatening. But the assertiveness I have been trying to encourage in myself in recent months is eluding me a bit just now. Of course, now is when I really need it.

Oh, and the smoke’s back in Portsmouth this morning. Koff.

I’m sorry for your mom. I went in hospital, and I hated it. Be sure she gets flowers, and make sure you check with her doctor about the “blood thinner.” Usually they aggravate existing conditions rather than cause them. So be sure that any underlying issues are addressed, as well as the continuation/discontinuation of anticoagulation therapy.

And this is just a compulsive note from a cardiac transcriptionist, so feel free to skip it, too.

Andy’s mother had some surgery last year that they had her on a blood thinner for which did the same thing. If it’s any consolation when she got back in the hospital all was solved, they reduced the dosage and she didn’t have any further problems during her recovery.

Hang in there, and keep up your walks. If nothing else, getting outside just to walk makes me feel better. Sometimes Jodi has to nudge me to take a walk, but I always feel at least a little better.

I’m interested in the Jamaican place — what is it called?

Aw, I appreciate the notes, I wouldn’t skip ’em. And they have indeed decided to discontinue anticoagulation for now. Needless to say, we’re keeping a close eye on her; but they sent her home yesterday, so I’m hoping that’s a good sign.

The coupon said “MP Island Cafe”. The sign on the door said “JC Island Cafe”, but the far wall had a large “MP” neon sign. So there seems to be some confusion as to the name. It’s on Portsmouth Blvd, a little west of us.

Hope you have recovered from your weekend – I’m not sure I have!

Hope your mom’s doing better. As far as the eviction notice and multiple summons on the neighboor’s door, Dave and I had the same experience when we lived in Virginia Beach.
