  1. You (or anyone else) can sign up for a chance at Closed Beta at http://www.startrekonline.com/
There’s 3 of us from the ‘burg who are in so far (that I know of), and they’re adding more people every week.

Nominal current announced timing is (semi*) Open Beta Jan. 12-26, Early Start (for preorders from certain retailers) starting somewhere in the Jan. 27 to 29 range, and Launch Feb. 2. Preorders are available now, with a Standard and a Collector’s Edition, plus some retailers have specific bonuses (Amazon, Gamestop, and Best Buy confirmed so far).

I’m still under NDA and can’t say anything that’s not publicly available, but there are a whole bunch of recent interviews and some videos floating about, most linked from the main STO homepage under News.

This one on fleet actions may be particularly interesting, and you may recognize one of the devs presenting it from the days of the B5 game πŸ™‚

    * Open Beta in this case will require a key; beta testers and preorders are guaranteed, plus many of the folks who sign up on the STO website, and probably some giveaways from other sites if they follow the usual pattern. It’s “open” in that the NDA has been lifted, but not entirely a completely open free-for-all. That said, anyone with a serious interest should be able to get in.
