Lots and lots of blacktop

Feeling better this morning. Went to the pub last night with Tom and Donna and had a pretty good time.

Tom wants me to go up to the new National Air and Space Museum with him on October 10th. I like the idea – I’d hardly want to miss a chance to make a pilgrimage to the STS Enterprise – but October is loading up quick. The 22nd is a weekend trip to Salem for Rising Star, the weekend of the 29th includes a trip to Blacksburg for VTSFFC Halloween, and the weekend of 11/05 is another con I’ve always wanted to go to.

My poor car. The last months have been really hard on it.

Allow at *least* a half-day for the Udvar-Hazy Center… and if you are a serious geek and plan on actually reading many of the signs and/or taking lots of photos, it is probably more like 6 hours. Well worth it.

    6hr minimum, absolutely

I believe that the plan is to get up at an ungodly hour and get there at opening, then pretty much spend the day. I’m the type of guy that not only reads the signs, but walks slowly around examining details of mechanisms, workmanship, and design. πŸ™‚

  • A request if you please …

PICTURES PICTURES PICTURES of your new digs, Tom and Donna, the pub, etc. PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZE

I plan to be up there for the Halloween party, come hell or high water, so add one more to the list of travelers …

Well, at the moment I have no camera. I intend to pick up a nice digital as soon as I can afford one, and then I’ll gladly pass pics along πŸ™‚

The “space” section wasn’t open yet when I went thru in December, but you could walk to the edge and gawk at the shuttle. The place is probably more complete now; the XV-15 tiltrotor was still dripping engine oil at the time.
