Technicon 24 Saturday

March 31st, 2007

I should have gotten up earlier, but my copy of “Should’ve” got lost somewhere around those traffic accidents. Still, by 10:00 or so, I was clean and dressed, and shrewlet suggested some quick breakfast protein – I directed us to the nearby Hardee’s.

45 minutes’ wait for a dry, overcooked sausage biscuit. Not my best plan ever.

Made it back to the con by 11:00 just in time for Iron Costumer to set up. Murphy and Finagle came by to help, and much time was thereby lost in hotel snafus and technology failures. Iron Costumer 3-D specifically lost about 25% of her sewing time to one issue or another. Nevertheless, we all had lots of fun, and 4 audience members ended up with Royal Manticoran Navy costumes to take home. I was personally stunned by the amount of tailoring that can be accomplished in 2 hours – the needle on Iron Costumer Historical’s machine may have been moving fast enough to show relativistic effects. 120 minutes of improv sportscasting wasn’t easy for me either, but I enjoyed the challenge and have already volunteered for next year. Dwight was the perfect Chairman, and Kender did one incredible job pulling it all off.

At this point, I think I finally got my con badge. Good thing most of T-Con’s staff know me by sight! Starr called to let me know that she’d landed the ER job she wanted, and cell phone celebration followed. Dazed by the good news and the rapid pace, I headed to my room for a few minutes’ quiet, but made the mistake of passing by Filking 101, and next thing I knew, I’d written two stanzas for southernsinger πŸ™‚ (We gotta finish that one – I think it started great!)

In the midst of that, meiran called, and asked if I’d like some lunch. At this point I realized that my last proper meal had been on Thursday, and I regretfully bowed out of the filking panel. Meiran’s always great to talk to, and between the company and my hunger, a sub sandwich evaporated from my plate while I wasn’t looking. While there, I laid eyes on madwriter for one of only two times the whole con: he, tzel, drich, and Elf happened to be at the next table!

Back to the con. I flew through the Dealer’s room (no money this year anyway) got talking with a friend or three, and seeming seconds later, had to report as one of the comics for “Whose Con Is It Anyway?” That went pretty darn good too – each of us collected a few good laughs. We baked under the stage lights, but the good news is that both Iron Costumer and Whose Con should have footage in the Technicon 24 DVD that’s rumored to be in production.

Okay! Whose Con is over, evening festivities start soon, and I have nothing else to do for the rest of – oh. Hi, rattrap! Costume Call judge? Hey – sure! See you there!

Wow.

But before I had to report for that, I got to talk to pathia for about an hour – it was a really good conversation, we hadn’t caught up in months and months. I hated having to break it off, but I’d just made promises. Back to Main Programming I went, where the audience was treated to some amazing dancing by Bambi and Amira. I had the chance to talk briefly to art guest David Mattingly, and judged the costumes with him and jfranklin.

Costume Call: Fun costumes. Not enough of them. Heck, even I might commission something and get back up there next year; the Vile Skit, while pretty darn funny this year (turns out that colleenk is a glorious, glorious ham!) was twice as long as Costume Call. Everybody sign up for #25!

(Side note: I’ll try not to be too crass here, but if you like pretty fan femmes of many different varieties, Technicon is a very good place to go. I can only guess if the seeing is as good from the other direction.)

Southernsinger’s performance was one of his best, and should also appear on the DVD. He ruled the room, playing until his fingers practically failed. I helped platypusgirl and krysturtle carry stuff to their room, and, ah… succumbed to the Dark Side of Saturday Night Costuming. (There may have been cookies involved.) It was hilarious! I got glomped multiple times – the experience was quite good for my ego. There are already pictures posted somewhere πŸ™‚

I had another finger or two of wine at the room party afterwards (I swear, I’ve had more to drink in the last 18 months than in the 37 years prior) and picked up my conversation with Pathia again, while being skritched by Meche and Colleenk. (Possibly also by Jfranklin, but I think he was aiming for someone else.) Pathia made much progress in selling Anthrocon to me this year. I’d love to go… we’ll see how the time and money fall! Staggered back to my room around 3, and slept very very well.

I scrolled between your icon and your username too fast and for a brief momment wondered what has inspired the rename to πŸ™‚

Don’t feel too bad about your badge. According to the DB, Barb, John Franklin, and John Ringo never got their badges (though I swear I saw Barb with a badge). Good thing we either know the folks on sight, or that it’s damned near impossible to not realize it’s John Ringo, if he’s talking.

Anthrocon is great fun. Highly recommend.

I hope I was intelligible during that evening chat. That was probably the dumbest thing I’ve done in awhile. πŸ˜‰

I do remember everything we talked about, but the amount of alcohol I consumed was like 2x effective on my brain and body due to only having slept 2hours the night before *laugh*

I don’t understand how Ringo didn’t get his badge. I saw him in line at Reg and doing some stuff with Vond.

DB says “Not Created.” All I know.

You were very coherent in fact, though you had a little trouble finding the words you wanted once in a while πŸ™‚

I’ll choose to assume you weren’t too intoxicated, since you paid me a very welcome compliment that night! Believe me, between 9 hours of panels, stage lights, little food, endorphin rush, and a bit of wine, I was feeling no pain either.

I’m completely amused that you were two rooms away for me for much of the day and I still never saw you on Saturday! It’s more a function of how involved I was in the games I was playing than anything else, but it’s still funny.

Not so much, but that’s okay. πŸ™‚

Lunch was good, and I got to go to Macadoo’s again! I miss that place so much, but there’s nothing like it up here. We’re hoping American Tap Room, which has comprable food, will work out to be a good hang out spot. But it was really loud when we went.

I’m babbling about food, you can tell I’m hungry ; )

Our Dark Side doesn’t have cookies. It has brownies. And you did partake of those particular brownies earlier in the evening. I’m very persuasive when I try to convert. So much so that you don’t realize you’re succumbing until it’s too late. πŸ˜›

Yup, Barb had a badge. πŸ™‚
