VTSFFC has announced plans to hold a Technicon in 2010.

I realized this morning that the first part of my last post could be a bit impenetrable if one doesn’t know at least a little gamer slang. Luckily, there’s not many people reading my journal who don’t… and the rest are sharp enough to work it out from contexts.

Thanks to everyone for the support! This is weirding me the hell out, but I have no intention of getting all drama-queeny over it (even if sometimes I want to). Having you folks watching my back helps an enormous amount.

Warning: Plans are not the same as reality. What is happening now is what NASA or the military would call “long lead time items”; things we need to do now to keep our options open, such as prepare a room request.

The current plan can be summarized as “A minimum base similar to Invisifest, with exactly as much additional content as people are willing to personally commit to organizing, running, and quite possibly paying for”. We ran a successful ~50 attendee Invisifest with the available staff, and can do that again in the spring; anything more will require other folks stepping up.

As for the out-of-town-folk… the minimum to get a group rate at the Microtel IIRC is only a dozen rooms. At some later point someone (possibly me) will put out a call for pre-reservation commitments; if there’s enough interest we’ll try to get a block. It’s moderately likely that we’ll try to get the meeting room there for the evening(s) again, as the functions there in general have been well received.

Again, however, all this is very much pending having the people and slack available to make things happen; the burnout quotient amongst folks with experience is very high, and while we’ve got some new faces none of them have any con experience at all.

I assumed as much, which is why I used the phrase “has announced plans”. Anything can happen in the next five or six months, right?

the functions there in general have been well received

I’ll take that as a compliment, and thanks!

Well, as usual, we’re interested in coming, both for the con and to see people.

Biggest potential problem for us is, as usual, Norwescon. It’s April 1-4 of 2010. Which means we have to be in WA state the weekends of March 27-28 and April 3-4. Most other dates are doable for us.
